A change in eggs!


Using and combining a common food object and a colour that is known to everyone, the activity was a simple one that the toddlers were able to identify with and at the same time witness the experience of creating something new yet similar. Titled, "Dye Red Eggs!", this activity was to allow children to learn about new things by making use of their sense of sight to observe the process. Of course, they managed to do it on their own too! 


Mdm Wong introducing the materials: 2 original peeled eggs, 2 eggs that have been dyed and a bowl of red dye mixed with warm water. She also demonstrated the process to produce a dyed egg for the children to see.

Audi decided that she would give it a try too! Doing very well indeed :) 


Sze Jie filled with excitement and curiosity as she dips the peeled boiled egg into the bowl of dye! 


Ilfy gets his chance as he makes use of his sense of touch and sight to see the dyed egg. The children are encouraged to talk about what they see throughout the process.


Now, time to eat! Sze Jie and Wen Xuan start to dig in by cutting the egg into small pieces first.


It must taste delicious! All the children are happy because not only do they learn something new, they also get to eat! 

After the fun-filled activity, the children were taught a new rhyme about seeing things with their eyes. It's called "I Spy with My Eyes". It goes like this:

"I spy with my eyes
With my two tiny eyes
I can see something big
I can see something small

With a blink and a wink
And a roll in my eye
With a blink and a wink
I'm the next big king"

Making Banana on a cracker

Children enjoyed the process of making banana on a cracker. They see, touched and smelt the colors. They smelt and felt the textures of the cream crackers, bananas, cinnamon sticks and spice powder.
Sze Jie smelt the cinnamon stick and said: “Yup ! smelly !”

Howe Yu smelt the banana and said,”Ba-na-na nice,yummy! Yummy! “

Zachary smelt the banana with cinnamon powder and said: “ Yuk! Ba-na-na ! smelly! “ He started eating his hand-made banana on a cracker.

The children learnt new words - cream cracker, banana, cinnamon stick and spice powder. They learnt to peel and mash the bananas into chunks and place them on a piece of cracker. Throughout the process, the children explored the ingredients by smell, touch and eat.


Sze Jie used her five fingers to grasp onto the cinnamon stick and smelt the cinnamon stick with her nose.  She said:” Yuk! Smelly! “

 


Howe Yu used his five fingers to grasp onto the banana and smelt the banana skin with his nose. Howe Yu  said:” Banana, Nice smell ! Yummy! Yummy! “  

Ilyf used his two hands to grasp onto the paper plate and smelt the banana chunks  which was placed onto the plate by himself. He looked at the teacher and said: “Banana, nice!”

Jie Xi used her five fingers to grasp onto the cinnamon powder and poured it onto the banana on the cracker. She said,” Yuk!” after smelling the cinnamon powder with her nose. She started eating the cracker with banana, she said, “ Nice! “ after eating.


 
Upon completion to break the bananas into chunks and placed them onto the plate. Zachary sprinkled a little cinnamon powder on his banana. Zachary Said,” Yuk!  Smelly! “ He started eating the banana and cracker. After eating,  Zachary said:”Banana,  biscuit,yummy! Yummy!”


The children were engaged in the process of peeling and breaking the bananas into chunks before placing them on a piece of cracker. Throughout the process the children explored the ingredients by smelling, touching and eating. They said:” Bananas sweet, biscuits crispy, nice,”

老师念儿歌,孩子做游戏。当老师一边说“小手,小手拍拍”,一边做“拍手”的动作时,小朋友们也跟着老师一起拍手做游戏。


当老师说到“藏起来”的时候,小朋友们也会跟着老师,把两只小手藏到身后。



让孩子用手作画,可以放松情绪享受作画乐趣,还可以引导幼儿对颜色的认识


丝婕面带微笑地把蘸满黄色颜料的右手印在画纸上,并仔细地看着。



奕涵把蘸满蓝色颜料的双手用力地印在画纸上,并认真感觉着。

家希把蘸满蓝色颜料的左手和蘸满红色颜料的右手印在画纸上,然后把小手翻过来仔细地看着。

Let's make fruit Salad!

Children enjoyed the process of making fruit salad. They touched and smelt the ingredients. They felt the textures of the canned apples, pineapples and bananas.

Yi Han touched the pineapple and kept on squashing the pineapple into smaller pieces and putting it in her mouth. She said, “Yummy! Yummy!”

Zachary used the plastic knife to cut the apple into smaller pieces and put it inside his mouth. He started eating and making loud noise,”Umm! Umm!”

Lucas used both his hands to grasp onto the container and smiled while looking at the pineapple.
He said, “Nice!” while he continued to pour the pineapple into a strainer.

The children have learnt pouring and cutting skills such as pouring apples into a container and social skills by imitating their teachers and peers. Overall, this activity have helped the children improve their fine motor development.


The children listened attentively while the teacher presented the ingredients to make the fruit salad.


Yi Han used both her hands to grasp onto the container and poured the canned pineapple into a strainer. She smelt the canned pineapples and made some noise. “Wa! Wa!” She then began to explore the taste.

Lucas used both his hands to grasp onto the container and poured the canned pineapple onto a strainer. He smelt and looked at the pineapple and made some noise,”Yee! Yee!” The teacher rephrased , ‘Lucas, nice smell!’

Sze Jie used her left hand to grasp the apples while holding onto the plastic knife with the other hand and started cutting the apple. She then said, “Yucks! Apples!’

Zachary used both his hands to grasp the container and poured the mixed fruits onto a small plate. He made a loud sound, “Apple! Umm! Umm!” The teacher rephrased, “Zachary, fruit salad! I like to eat apples.”

Jia Xi was observing at the apples, while cutting them. She mumbled “Apple,cut! Cut!” The teacher rephrased Jia Xi’s sentence, “I Can slice apples”.


Yan Qing was busily using a plastic knife to slice the apple.

The children were engaged throughout the process of making fruit salad. They were taking turn to pour the can of mixed fruits into a strainer, peeling , slicing and stirring the mixed fruits before taking turns to pour them into a big bowl. The teacher served them in small bowls.

Learning about "egg white" and "egg yolk"

In this activity, the children were introduced to the colours of egg white and egg yolk. This activity helps the children to develop fine motor skills as they used the plastic knife to cut the eggs into smaller pieces. It also helps to improve their language development. At the same time the children also learned to do things together to complete the task at hand.


Song Jia Ling used her thumb and her pointer finger to deshell the hard-boiled egg. She said to her friend, Gerard Lew,: “Egg.”
Gerard Lew quietly deshelled the egg with his fingers and kept the pieces of eggshell inside the plate.


Jia Ling has nearly finished deshelling the egg while her friend, Aloysius Lee started to deshell the egg and explore its texture with his thumb and pointer finger.


Jian Wen and Gerard used the plastic knife to cut the egg into smaller pieces.
Gerard said: ”I can cut egg.” On the other hand, Jian Wen used his fingers to hold the egg and continued to cut the egg.


Aloysius, Jia Ling and Gerard used the plastic knife to cut the egg white and egg yolk into smaller pieces while Jian Wen looked at them. When asked by the teacher "What are you cutting?" The children said: “Egg, I like to eat.”


The three children continued slicing the egg into smaller pieces while Jian wen started eating his sliced egg. Jian Wen then said: “Yummy! Yummy!”


The children started eating their sliced egg mixed with egg white and egg yolk. They said: “Yummy! Yummy!Eat egg.”

Hi and welcome to Toddlers' Blog October Edition!

These toddlers have been learning quite a bit of things during this month, and each of them have something to show us. Let's take a look, shall we? Let's go!

Peijie: "See. I can fold!"

Celeste: "Hmm. How should I decorate this tissue roll and make it into something nice?"

Punith: "Wow. Green circles!"

Yuxi and Jing Xi were so happy as they get to play with clay!

Sze Wai and Kai Yee were moulding a sculpture using coloured clay.

Squeeze.. squeeze..

"Hmm. It's flat!"

And here's introducing... Stephanie! The newest child in toddlers class!

"Finally! My nice design!"

"Yes? Is my design nice?"

Muhsayne was working hard on his sculpture.
